Looking for Lincoln

Looking for Lincoln is the coordinating entity for the 43-county Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area. The agency works in partnership with Lincoln Home National Historic Site to tell the story of Lincoln's almost 30 years in Illinois in communities where Lincoln worked, traveled, and lived.

Because Lincoln made speeches in Hillsboro and had close friends there, a committee of the Historical Society of Montgomery County is in the process of getting Hillsboro certified as a Looking for Lincoln Community. The committee is developing a tour of local sites directly tied to Lincoln as well as sites that represent the Lincoln era.

The committee’s mission is to educate the public about Hillsboro’s unique history with Lincoln from 1844 to 1858 – with an ongoing goal of promoting tourism and economic development.

Current members of the committee are Sarah McConnell, Nancy Slepicka, Mike Rappe, Linda Zimmer, Carol Calvert, Jim May, Pat Brink, Sandy Leitheiser, and Tommy Justison. If you’re interested in joining this effort, contact Nancy Slepicka,
